In multiplayer online games, every second counts. Throughout the existence of multiplayer games, gamers found ways to shorten text in order to waste less time typing in mid-game. Communication with other player in a multiplayer game is key, people don’t want to take a long time to type a message to another player. In this entry I am going to show you some of these online slang terms and I will include multiple choice for you to have a guess what they mean. Answers will be at the end of the quiz.



LOL

Here are some of the terms used by gamers. You can see that most of the terms have the purpose of shortening down a work or phrase into a few letters to make it quicker for a player to type in chat while playing a game.



Term Answer Example

 

LOL - Laugh Out Loud - Can be said when something funny happens.


AFK - Away from Keyboard - “I’m going AFK” - meaning the person is leaving their PC.


Noob - A New or Bad Player - “You’re such a noob” - A Newbie or used as a general insult.


OP - Overpowered - “That character is OP” - Overpowered in comparison to the rest.


TROLLING - Posting Offensive Comments

People that say or post things to provoke an emotional response.


ATM - At the Moment - “I am busy ATM”.


GM - Good Match

Typically said after an online game has ended.
